Sardinian Mirto liqueur!

How do you make the famous Sardinian liqueur? Here are our precious tips !

Mirto is obtained from the berries of the myrtle plant, which grows throughout the Mediterranean. The berries are growing and maturing from February to November, the harvest starts in November. The berries are mature when their colour turns blue black.

After harvesting the berries must be processed immediately to preserve the smell and the flavor.

How you process the berries?

Put the berries in a big bottle, add alcoholic spirit and shake the bottle.

The colour of the mirto is dark pink, afterwards it turns violet. Leave the berries in the infusion for ca. 3 weeks and shake the bottle each week.

Strain the liquid through a kitchen towel and squash the berries.

Combine water and sugar in a saucepan, bring to boil, add the obtained syrup to the infusion and allow to rest for 2 weeks before trying the famous Sardinian Mirto! Cheers!
