The Nature Paths, the Waterfalls of Monte Nieddu, the Granite Rock Formations of Cala Girgolu

Nature path “Lu Caminu di Falchi”

The trail “Lu Caminu di Falchi” is located in the municipality of Loiri Porto San Paolo between “hinterland and sea”, reachable by car in 2 minutes. It is one of several ancient agro-pastoral paths which connect the hinterland with the sea since the nuragic, roman and medieval period. The path is 11 km long and starts in the small village La Castagna, passes numerous, abandoned “stazzi” (typical farmhouses of the region Gallura) in a unique landscape (oak trees, holm oaks, cork trees and mediterranean plants) and finishes in the tourist village Porto San Paolo. The path is catalogued and marked with wooden signs.

Nature path “Romeo and Juliet of Paulesa”

The path “Romeo and Juliet from Paulesa” is located in the hinterland of the municipality of Loiri Porto San Paolo and is reachable by car in 4 minutes . Also this trail is an ancient connection between the community which lived in the hinterland and the community which lived near the sea. It is an interesting nature path with granite rocks “tafoni” and it is known because of the ancient story of Romeo and Juliet from Paulesa. The young Romeo and Juliet from Paulesa walked across the path because they were in love with each other and they had to get through many adventures but the story has a happy ending. The path is is catalogued and marked with wooden signs which tell the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Monte Nieddu

It takes 30 minutes by car to reach the granite mountain Monte Nieddu (Nature Park of Usinava). You can explore the mountain on foot or on your mountain bike and admire waterfalls, natural small lakes and woods. It is also a popular destination for trekking.

The Lagoon of San Teodoro

The lagoon of San Teodoro is reachable by car in 21 minutes. You can do bird watching and admire pink flamingos, seabirds, great blue herons, kingfishers and many other species. You can make a guided boat trip and visit the fish farm there.

Sassi Piatti (Cala Girgolu)

Sassi piatti is composed of granite rock formations formed by wind erosion and it stretches out from Cala Girgolu to beautiful small bays. It is reachable by car in 20 minutes.
